Hydroponic systems offer a number of advantages when compared to soil culture. They reduce water, pH, and nutrient stress; yield clean roots and leaves; and facilitate rapid crop turnaround and automation. The disadvantages are that disease may spread more rapidly, pH and nutrient control are required, and initial expenses are higher.
